| Program Design: Based on the recommendations, research and evidence-based practices of the following: American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) March of Dimes (MOD) State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) Wisconsin State Call to Action/ Children's Trust Fund Healthy Wisconsin 2010 City of Milwaukee Health Department (MHD) University of California (U of C) University of Wisconsin-Extension (UW-Ext) Wisconsin Association for Perinatal Care (WAPC) Women, Infants and Children (WIC) International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA) Doulas International (DONA) Wisconsin Public Health Association (WPHA) National Institutes of Health (NIH) Community Health Model: 21st Century: Focuses on the health maintenance of individuals in the community; based on the interrelatedness of physiological, psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, developmental and environmental factors, with a specific emphasis on sociocultural beliefs and practices; and the interplay of psychological and sociocultural stress and its effects on health. This model also emphasizes a true cultural competence of community health care providers, which transcends the use of interpreters; and is a return to those traditional practices that have been proven to be effective to promote wellness.
